Named to FiercePharma’s Top 15 Women in Pharma list in 2009, Anna Richo currently lends her talents to Amgen Inc. in Thousand Oaks, California. As Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer, Anna Richo holds responsibility for overall ethics and compliance regarding production, marketing and sales, and health care laws. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Directors’ Corporate Responsibility and Compliance Committee, Anna Richo has created a new initiative for health care compliance based on changing laws, and she has overseen similar efforts internationally in more than 40 countries. A committed member of her profession, she belongs to industry groups such as the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics, the Minority Corporate Counsel Association, and Women Business Leaders of the U.S. Health Care Industry Foundation.
Anna Richo prepared for her career with an extensive education. She began at Cornell University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Labor Relations. She then enrolled in the College of Law at DePaul University in Chicago to study toward a Juris Doctor. Aside from earning her degree, she secured the Trial Advocacy Academic Excellence Award and served as Editor of the DePaul Law Review.
Her formal education complete, Anna Richo embarked upon her law career as an Associate with Peterson & Ross. She worked on cases involving insurance, immigration, and domestic relations for three years. In 1991, she joined Baxter International Inc., where she remained for 12 years. Beginning as Corporate Counsel, she ultimately rose to the position of Vice President, Law, a role that required her to manage legal and worldwide public policy efforts for the BioScience Division, worth $3.2 billion. Anna Richo came to her current employer, Amgen, in 2003; she spent five years as Vice President, Law, before transitioning to her newly formed position.
